Disclosed is the use of a substance that inhibits SOAT1 gene expression and/or protein activity. The use is selected from at least one of the following: (a) the use for preparing a kit for diagnosis of liver cancer； (b) the use for preparing a kit for prognosis of liver cancer； (c) the use for preparing a companion diagnostic kit for liver cancer treatment； (d) the use for preparing a drug for prevention and/or treatment of cancers； (e) the use for preparing a drug for prevention and/or treatment of cancer spread and metastasis； (f) the use for preparing a drug for promotion of cancer cell apoptosis； (g) the use for preparing a drug for inhibition of cancer cells developing into cancers； and (h) the use for preparing a drug for inhibiting the proliferation and growth of cancer cells in vitro. The experiment shows that SOAT1 is obviously highly expressed in liver cancer tissue and serum； high abundance thereof suggests poor prognosis in patients with liver cancer； same can be used alone or in combination with other proteins as a marker for early diagnosis, prognosis or treatment companion diagnostics of tumors, especially liver cancer.
