A method of manipulating senescence in a plant and enhancing plant biomass. The method comprises transforming a plant with a genetic construct that has a cytokinin biosynthesis gene operably linked to a myb gene promoter that has at least one root specific or pollen specific motif deleted or inactivated from the promoter. The myb promoter can be from Arabidopsis and the root specific motif can be the sequence ATATT or AATAT and the pollen specific motif can be the sequence TTCT or AGAA.
