PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To advance an insertion section while releasing its close contact with a body cavity canal wall without restricting a function for controlling the direction of the insertion section by smoothly reciprocatingly swinging the curving section.
SOLUTION: The curving section 2b of the insertion section 2 is curvingly operated by an operation knob 21, a pulley 12 having an operation wire 11 wound therearound is driven by an ultrasonic motor 14, the drive of the ultrasonic motor 14 is controlled by a controller 30, and a switch 31 can change over between a direction control operation mode and an insertion assist control mode. When an insertion assist control mode is selected, the operating amount of the operation knob 21 is appropriately adjusted, and an operation control switch 32 is pressed, the curving section 2b reciprocatingly curves at an optimal speed across an angle based on the operation amount of the operation knob 21.
