An isolated antibody or antibody fragment that binds to human CD22, including the variable region of the heavy chain having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 , 61, 62, 63 or 64; a light chain variable region having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 or 32; and a constant region derived from one or more human antibodies. An isolated antibody or antibody fragment that binds to human CD22, including heavy chain and light chain hypervariable regions (CDRs) obtained from variable regions from one or more of VM1000, VM1001, VM1002, VM1003, VM1004, VM1005, VM1006, VM1007, VM1008 , VM1009, VM1010, VM1011, VM1012, VM1013, VM1014 or VM1015, and a constant region obtained from one or more human antibodies. 3. An antibody or fragment according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said antibody or fragment competitively inhibits in vivo binding of a murine anti-CD22 antibody to human CD22. An anti-CD22 antibody or antibody fragment according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said antibody or specific site or variant binds CD22 with an affinity (K) of at least 10M. 5. A CD22 antibody or antibody fragment according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said antibody or specific site or variant binds CD22 with an affinity (K) of at least 10 M. 6.
