Systems and methods are disclosed for sensing electrical activity of a patient. In one embodiment, a sensor array system (10) includes a plurality of elongated strips (22) of a flexible substrate material that extend from a first end to terminate in a second end spaced therefrom by a length of the substrate material having spaced apart side edges. A plurality of electrically conductive sensors (20) are connected with and distributed along the length of each of the plurality of elongated strips (22) to provide a column of sensors (20) along each respective strip (22). Electrically conductive paths (23) extend from each of the conductive sensors (20) through a respective strip (22) to which it is connected and terminate in a corresponding connector (24) located near the first end of the respective strip (22).
