Claimed is an artificial bone composite, comprising bone cement matrix, biopolymer filler and bioactive glass filler. Preferably, the biopolymer is a polysaccharide, most preferably, chitosan. Preferably, the bone cement is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) based bone cement. Preferably, the glass filler is Bioglass 45S5. Most preferably, the three aforementioned components are each present in at least 33 vol.%. Preferably, an amphiphilic polymer promoter is present most preferably, said promoter is 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA-P, PHEMA). Preferably, a surface property enhancer is present which is, most preferably, polyacrylic acid (PAA). The composite may be used in the making of a bone implant, which may involve 3-D printing and additive manufacture. Also claimed is a method of making a bone implant comprising mixing a bone cement matrix, a biopolymer filler and a bioactive glass filler to provide an artificial bone composite. A further claim relates to a kit for making an artificial bone composite.
