PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoloring method for enabling a high blending into a cosmetic, etc., by lowering the coloration degree of an extract of Olea europaea fruits or leaves having stimulation-alleviating action by a simple and inexpensive method without decreasing the contents of tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol.
SOLUTION: The purification method is for reducing a colored substance without influencing the contents of tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol having cyclooxygenase (COXII) inhibition action. The purification method comprises extracting fruits or leaves of Olea europaea with a liquid mixture of a hydrophilic solvent, such as ethanol, and water, dissolving the resultant extract into a liquid mixture of hydrophilic solvent and water, and decreasing the coloration of the solution by treating it with active carbon of which the peak of fine pore diameter is about 25-40 &angst.
