Of a stretcher (litter or pram) of the type used in the field of first aid(emergency) situations, it is realized that current straight-handled modelsaredifficult and potentially unsafe to use: difficult to grasp, lift, and carry.Used totransport a patient and normally carried by two people, these stretchers maybestored in a folded or unfolded condition. The improvement in this stretcher ishandles being elongated and twice bent upward and outward in the shape of anS (from center of the stretcher) and also may be splayed outward from thelongitudinal centerline thus improving ergonomics to provide easier grasping, lifting, and carrying. These handles may be removable, and on one end (footend)wheels may be incorporated to allow for one person to transport a patient.
