A suspension system for supporting surgical devices inside a patients bodycavitycomprising an external frame, a plurality of elongated members extending fromthe externalframe and through the patients skin into the body cavity, and an internalplatform located insidethe body cavity. The internal platform includes a plurality of linksreconfigurable from a firstelongated position wherein the links are substantially aligned along alongitudinal axis forinsertion to a second position wherein the links are angled with respect toone another to form anon-linear configuration. A first support of the external frame is movablewith respect to thesecond support to thereby move the internal platform.
