The surgical handpiece includes a shell, a channel having a perfusion conduit, and a sensor housing. The channel is coupled to the shell such that the proximal end of the channel is located at the proximal end of the shell and the distal end of the channel is located near the distal end of the shell. The sensor housing has a perfusion passage extending through the sensor housing. The sensor housing has a sealing interface at one end.
