Disclosed are chaps 10 comprising an integral belt region 51 extending, in use, around the front of a wearer, first and second extension pieces 53, 54 disposed respectively to either end of the belt region and integrally formed with or permanently secured to the chaps, a linking belt portion 57 formed with an enlargement 60 providing a lumbar support or a posture aid or both for a wearer, and means for attaching the linking belt portion to each of the extension pieces. The enlargement preferably comprises an area of the linking belt portion that is widened to create an enlarged support pad of suitable shape. At least one further pad may be overlain upon and stitched or otherwise secured to the first pad, with stuffing of a firm medium preferably being inserted between the adjacent pads prior to securing them together. The adjacent pads may be formed as a pouch or pocket into which the stuffing is removably inserted.
