The method involves evaluating a temporal change in viewing direction and focal point to identify viewing events which differ by different speeds of an eye movement. A period of time is divided into intervals such that interval corresponding to duration of specific viewing event is assigned to identified viewing events. The times or a true subset of times is selected from the intervals assigned to fixation or pursuit movement of eye. The focal point in scene image is mapped to a position corresponding to focal point in a reference image, for each of selected times. An independent claim is included for a device for evaluating results of gaze detection.
