PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sugarcane-stalk-number-related marker among the quantitative traits thereof, and a method for producing a sugarcane strain with increased stalk number.SOLUTION: The sugarcane-stalk-number-related marker comprises consecutive nucleic acid regions selected from regions sandwiched by specific base sequences in sugarcane chromosome. The method for producing a sugarcane strain with increased stalk number is also provided, comprising a step of extracting a chromosome of a progeny plant where at least one parent thereof is sugarcane and a step of assaying the presence/absence of the stalk-number-related marker in the chromosome obtained by the preceding step.
