Modified forms of bouganin protein are provided having biological activity anda reduced propensity to activate human T cells as compared to the non-modifiedbouganin protein. Also provided are T-cell epitope peptides of bouganin, andmodified T-cell epitope peptides of bouganin, which have a reduced propensityto activate human T cells as compared to the non-modified T-cell epitopepeptide. Also provided are cytotoxins that comprise a ligand which binds tocancer cells, and is attached to modified bouganin proteins. Also provided aremethods of inhibiting or destroying mammalian cancer cells using thecytotoxins and pharmaceutical compositions for treating human cancer.
