A surgical stapler applicator, comprising: a housing (104); at least one handle (106) pivotally connected to the housing; a channel assembly (108) extending distally from the housing; a staple holder (170) disposed within said channel assembly and defining a channel therein a plurality of staples (C) slidably disposed within said channel of said staple holder; a drive channel (140) for closing the jaws of the staple applicator and slidably supported within at least one of said housing and said channel assembly and operatively connected to said at least one handle; a staple drive bar (160) slidably supported within at least one of said housing and said channel assembly, a linkage mechanism (164) disposed in at least one of said housing and said channel assembly, said hinge operatively connected to said drive channel and to said staple drive bar and configured to displace said staple drive bar in a first proximal direction upon displacement of said drive channel in a second, opposite direction, and to maintain said drive bar of staples in position after further displacement of said drive channel in the second opposite direction, where the link mechanism includes a cam groove (166c) having a first pin (166d) slidably disposed therein, said first pin operatively connected to said drive channel and slidable along said cam groove tra s the displacement of said drive channel, where said cam groove includes a cam part (166f) and a rest part (166e), said first pin being slidable along the cam part to cause said mechanism to articulation displaces said staple drive bar in the first direction after the drive channel is displaced in the second direction, and being slidable along the rest portion to allow the articulation mechanism to hold the staple drive bar in position upon further displacement of the drive channel, characterized in that the link mechanism includes a first link arm (166) that includes the cam slot and rotatably disposed at least partially within the housing,
