PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood pressure measuring apparatus and method which enable a highly accurate measurement of blood pressures without influence of vibration from an air bag for blocking blood synchronizing heart beating, caused by changes in the capacity of a blood vessel at a cuff upstream part acting as noise components in the measurement of systolic blood pressure using a shutdown device forming an air layer.SOLUTION: The blood pressure measuring apparatus is provided with a blood pressure cuff body 1 made up of a cuff member 2, an air bag 8 for blocking blood which presses a blood pressure measuring part as a whole, a sub air bag 9 for pressing the side of the heart and an air bag 10 for detecting pulse waves for pressing the side of the arterial downstream and pressure adjustors 26 and 27 to be connected respectively through the first and second piping 6 and 7.
