A hair straightening or hair styling composition comprising: (i) about 0.1 to about 70 wt. % of at least one hydroxy ketone, dihydroxy ketone or combinations thereof； (ii) about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one organic or inorganic base； (iii) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one functional polymer； (iv) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one diol, polyol, sugar, or combinations thereof； (v) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one reducing agent； and (vi) about 40 to about 95 wt. % of at least one carrier； and wherein, the composition has a pH of about 5 to about 11. This application provides a process for preparing such hair styling or hair straightening composition and a method of use thereof.
