A method and system for calibrating an analog sensor used in a digital measurementsystem is provided. The design comprises generating a precise pressure valueset at multiple calibration points and supplying said precise pressure valueset to an uncalibrated pressure sensor (403), detecting sensor changes for theuncalibrated pressure sensor (403) based on each precise pressure value generated,polling an actual pressure reading associated with a sensor change for the uncalibratedpressure sensor (403) for each calibration point, and establishing a mathematicalrelationship between measured value readings and actual pressure for the uncalibratedsensor. Establishing the mathematical relationship converts the uncalibratedsensor to a newly calibrated sensor. A known good sensor (404) may be employedto enhance calibration reliability. The method and system for calibrating ananalog sensor are applied to pressure transducers in phacoemulsification machinesthat are used in eye surgery of cataracts.
