Methods and devices for dispersion of clusters of somatic plant embryossuspended in a liquid are disclosed. Themethods comprise i) subjecting the clusters of embryos to fluid dynamicsforces causing axially extensional strain and radiallycompressional strain and ii) subjecting the clusters of embryos to fluiddynamics forces causing axially compressional strain andradially extensional strain fluid dynamics and iii) repeating said steps insequence until the individual embryos are separated fromeach other. The devices may comprise a flow channel including at least oneconstriction, such that clusters of embryos flowingthrough the flow channel are first subjected to axially extensional strain andradially compressional strain, and then to axiallycompressional strain and radially extensional strain from fluid dynamicsforces.
