An improved line cutter for fishing rods is provided, comprising a reel seat (3) having a base (4), wherein the base (4) includes a trigger (7) extending from the base (4). A slot (8) is formed into the trigger (7), wherein the slot (8) is adapted to accept a portion of fishing line, A blade (9) with a cutting edge (10) is positioned within the slot (8), and the cutting edge (10) is exposed to cut the fishing- line when the fishing line is pressed against the blade (9). An alternative design is also provided wherein the trigger (7) is removable from the reel seat base (4), In the removable trigger (7), the entire trigger (7) and blade (9) assembly may be replaced, or a blade pocket (13) inside the trigger (7) permits retention and replacement of the blade (9) alone.
