The seed monitoring system (148, 200, 500) comprising: a light source (210, 510) configured to emit light in an interior of a seed tube (142); a plurality of light receivers (220, 520), each of the plurality of light receivers (220, 520) configured to receive light in at least two sectors of a plurality of sectors (61 0a, 610b 610c, 61 0d) of a plane (610) in the interior of the seed tube (142) and generate a sensing signal corresponding to the received light; a processing system including a plurality of conditioning channels (420a, 420b, 420c), the processing system configured to process the sensing signals to generate conditioned signals; and a controller (250, 550) configured to generate a seed count value based on the generated conditioned signals. Further a method of monitoring seeds is disclosed.
