PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relate hardness of a substance to a depth at which the hardness is measured by a relatively simple structure.SOLUTION: A system 10 of displaying a distribution of substance hardnesses is equipped with a probe part 20 in which a plurality of probe elements 22 including an oscillator 26 for emitting vibrations to a living tissue and a vibration detecting sensor 28 for detecting a reflected wave are arranged in a two-dimensional manner. Each of the probe elements 22 is sequentially selected by a switching circuit 50 and is connected to a hardness calculating part 70 and a measurement depth calculating part 82. The hardness calculating part 70 analyzes frequency components for an incident wave signal to the oscillator 26 and a reflected wave signal from the vibration detecting sensor 28 respectively and calculates the hardness of the living tissue from the result. The measurement depth calculating part 82 calculates a measurement depth inside the living tissue of the position where the hardness is measured from a temporal position of the incident wave signal and a temporal position of the reflected wave signal.
