The present invention achieves synthesis of CuNPs through a rapid and eco-friendly processes employing Dioscorea buibifera tuber extract possessing profound α-amylase inhibitory potential indicating its therapeutic applications for control of postprandial hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Rapid synthesis of CuNPs was complete within 5 h at 50 ?C UV-visible (UV-vis) absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) confirmed the synthesis. Bioreduced CuNPs were primarily of spherical size with a total diameter of 80 to 120 nm. Nanoparticles were found to be stable in aqueous solution.
