The present disclosure provides a method of treating an alloimmune disorder or autoimmune disorder in an individual； the method comprises administering to the individual an effective amount of an antibody specific for complement component C1s. The present disclosure provides a method of monitoring the effectiveness of the treatment method； the method includes detecting the level of autoantibodies or alloantibodies in a biological sample obtained from an individual. The present invention provides a method for reducing the level of autoantibody or alloantibody titer in an individual suffering from, for example, an autoimmune disorder or an alloimmune disorder, wherein the individual is specifically associated with complement component 1s (C1s). The method is provided comprising administering an antibody that binds in an amount and for a period effective to reduce the level of autoantibody or alloantibody titer.
