The present invention relates to a mutant plant of the Cucurbitaceae family comprising a modified CENH3 gene, which mutant plant, when crossed to a wild-type plant having 2n chromosomes produces progeny, at least 0.1% of which have n chromosomes. Preferably, the modified CENH3 gene comprises at least one mutation compared to an otherwise identical naturally occurring CENH3 gene, which at least one mutation gives rise to at least one non- conservative amino acid change in the Histone Fold Domain of the encoded modified CENH3 protein or to the occurrence of a premature stop codon in the encoded modified CENH3 protein. The invention further relates to a method for the production of haploid or doubled haploid plants and to the plants thus obtained.La présente invention concerne une plante mutante de la famille des cucurbitacées comprenant un gène CENH3 modifié, laquelle plante mutante, lorsquelle est croisée avec une plante de type sauvage possédant 2n chromosomes produit une descendance dont au moins 0,1 % possède n chromosomes. De préférence, le gène CENH3 modifié comprend au moins une mutation par rapport à un gène CENH3 naturel par ailleurs identique, cette ou ces mutations provoquant au moins une modification dacides aminés non conservative dans le domaine de repliement des histones de la protéine CENH3 modifiée codée ou la présence dun codon darrêt prématuré dans la protéine CENH3 modifiée codée. Linvention concerne en outre un procédé de production de plantes haploïdes ou haploïdes doublées et les plantes ainsi obtenues.
