An aqueous, heat and cold stable, non-alcoholic or slightly-alcoholic microemulsion based antimicrobial mouthwash composition with improved antimicrobial efficacy. The composition comprises a unique water-soluble matrix composite, at least one water-immiscible or water- insoluble antimicrobial agent, and optionally, a preservative or preservative system, a weak carboxylic acid, a coloring agent and other additives. Examples of antimicrobial agents include menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and/or methyl salicylate. A process for preparing the oral care composition is also disclosed.Linvention concerne une composition pour bain de bouche antimicrobienne aqueuse, stable à la chaleur et au froid, sans alcool ou à faible teneur en alcool basée sur une microémulsion et présentant une efficacité antimicrobienne améliorée. La composition comprend un composite à matrice unique soluble dans leau, au moins un agent antimicrobien immiscible dans leau ou insoluble dans leau, et optionnellement un conservateur ou un système conservateur, un acide carboxylique faible, un agent colorant et dautres additifs. Les agents antimicrobiens sont par exemple du menthol, du thymol, de leucalyptol et/ou du salicylate de méthyle. Linvention concerne également un procédé de préparation de la composition de soins buccaux.
