A novel recombinant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) having an attenuated phenotype including mutations in an M2-2 open reading frame that interferes with the expression of M2-2 protein is provided herein. M2-2 mutations can occur in combination with mutations in other loci. Using the methods described herein, combinations of mutations are provided to achieve the desired attenuation level. The recombinant RSV strains described herein are suitable for use as live-attenuated RSV vaccines. Also provided are polynucleotide sequences of the described viruses, as well as methods of producing and using the viruses.M2-2 단백질의 발현을 간섭하는 M2-2 개방형 해독틀(open reading frame)에서 돌연변이를 포함하는 약독화된 표현형을 갖는 신규 재조합 호흡기 세포융합 바이러스(RSV)가 본원에서 제공된다.
