Head size, growth rate and the shape of the head are important pointers towards benign or more sinister medical conditions. The measurement of HC of the child in combination with appropriate neuroimaging definitely, assists in the diagnosis and ongoing management. However, in periphery such cases remain undiagnosed till major complication sets inmeasuring head circumference additionally proves superior to plain measurement of weight, height and mid-arm circumference till 2 years of age. Head circumference plays a vital role in diagnosis of macrocephaly and microcephaly. An attempt is made to increase the apparent effectiveness of measuring head circumference by including a normal range and giving it green color coding. A simple tape having range for normal HC for a particular age (coded in green color) and any deviation from normal range, either to left or right (coded in red) enables peripheral health workers to decide whether child is in need of referral to a tertiary hospital at an early stage and reduce long term complications.Following invention is described in detail with the help of Figure 1 of sheet 1 showing a vertical slit at beginning of the tapeand Figure 2 of sheet 2 showing range for an age group marked in green.
