The present invention relates to a system to automatically detect an insulin cartridge, capable of automatically detecting all types of insulin cartridges. According to the present invention, a method comprises the following steps: storing information of compatible insulin in an insulin pen (S10)； coupling the insulin pen with an insulin cartridge wherein information about insulin is stored (S20)； the insulin pen detecting whether or not the information about the insulin inputted in the insulin cartridge is matched with anyone of pieces of information stored in the insulin pen (S30)； and the insulin pen changing setting of the insulin pen in accordance with the matched information about the insulin (S40).
