Oral and dental care and cleaning agents which, based on the weight thereof, contain 1 to 10% by weight sorbitol, 1 to 5% by weight glycerin and 0.1 to 1% by weight xanthan exhibit an optimal compromise between applicability and plaque reduction and fluoride deposition. In addition, these compositions are suitable in particular for cleaning by means of electric toothbrushes, since said compositions are gentle on the sensitive mechanism of the electrically operated brush heads.
