PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method that automatically determine plural display areas of images having different attributes and displayed on the same screen and that allow a user to make setting for display and give a high priority to the user setting.SOLUTION: A display device 1 detects an area of each image displayed on a display unit 14, determines an attribute (monochrome/color/text) of the image, and indicates the detected area and its determination result by highlight display. The display device 1 further receives selection of the detected area, optionally enables setting of image processing on the selected area, and executes the set image processing on the area and then displays the area regardless of the detection result after the setting.
