A device for applying successive resilient ligating bands (14,15,16,17) to tissue (48) is described. A sleeve (60) has an opening (44) at a front end (42) thereof, and axially extending arms (5) having axially extending spaces (62) therebetween. Band-support surfaces (66) located on the arms (5) extending from the front end (42) for accommodating a plurality of ligating bands (14,15,16,17). A first tube (19) around which the sleeve (60) is located, is reciprocal relative to the sleeve (60) in the direction towards and away from the front of the device, and has axially extending fingers (54) provided with forward-facing pushing surfaces (58). Means (46) are provided for drawing tissue (48) to be ligated into the opening (44).
