PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair type massager capable of accurately detecting a body portion of a treated person.SOLUTION: The chair type massager is provided with a massage unit arranged so as to vertically move in an interior of a seat back and provided with a treatment finger protruding forward from the seat back and massaging the treated person, a kneading means of moving the treatment finger back and forth and a position detecting means of detecting a height of a body portion of the treated person touched by the treatment finger with respect to the back seat, a vertically moving mechanism vertically moving the unit along the seat back, and a control means of referring to the height of the body portion of the treated person detected by the position detecting means and controlling actions of the vertically moving means and the kneading means. The control means detects the height of the body portion of the treated person by the position detecting means within a detection range narrower than a whole vertically moving range of the massage unit.COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO【課題】 被施療者の身体の部位の検知を正確に行なうことのできる椅子型マッサージ機を提供する。【解決手段】 背凭れから前方に突出し、被施療者にマッサージを施す施療指と、該施療指を前後に移動させる揉み手段と、施療指が接触している被施療者の身体の部位の背凭れに対する高さを検知する位置検出手段を具え、背凭れの内部に昇降自在に配備されたマッサージユニットと、該ユニットを背凭れに沿って昇降させる昇降機構と、位置検出手段によって検知した被施療者の身体の部位の高さを参照して昇降機構及び揉み手段の動作を制御する制御手段とを具える椅子型マッサージ機において、制御手段は、マッサージユニットの全昇降範囲よりも狭い検知範囲で、位置検出手段による被施療者の身体の部位の高さの検知を行なう。
