A brush cutter (1) as a power tool comprises an combustion engine (311), an electric motor (341), a gear head (4) which drives a blade (5), a battery pack (337) which provides electric current to the electric motor (341) and a controller (339) which controls a driving of the blade (5) . An output shaft of the combustion engine (311) and an output shaft of the electric motor (341) are arranged coaxially to each other. Further, the combustion engine (311) drives the gear head (4) and thereby the blade (5) is driven. The controller (339) has a first control mode in which the blade (5) is driven and a second control mode in which the battery pack (337) is charged. In the second control mode, the controller (339) controls the combustion engine (311) so that the combustion engine (311) drives the electric motor (341) as a generator without driving the blade (5), and the battery pack (337) is charged by the generator.
