The present invention refers to a photo-thermal bioreactor and method for culture and in vitro micropropagation of Deschampsia antarctica that consists of a discontinuous immersion reactor for biomass micropropagation comprising means to incorporate chemical inducing agents (salt, metals, organic compounds, etc.) and lighting or luminescence means (UV radiation and temperature) to provide said chemical inducing and/or lighting means at any growth stage of the plant material (multiplication or propagation and/or maintenance). The present invention is advantageous in that it allows combining the property of developing important amounts of biomass from the above-referred Antarctic species with the provision of the right conditions to allow the production by said plant of metabolites that are useful to human health and personal care.
