"An insect trapping device" for beetles especially for trapping white grub beetles has been devised wherein the ratio of width to height of the beetles trap is 1 to 2. The major components are lamp shade (1) embodying the light source therein, fins of trap (2), CFL assembly (3) details as shown in Fig 4 placed centrally, funnel (4) and beetle collecting pot (5) the details of which are shown in figure (9). The diameter of the lamp shade is about 310 to 450 mm. The beetles hitting fins (2) have ratio of width to length 1: 3 and joined at 90 to 160° angles with each other placed vertically and/or horizontally or diagonally with upper portion having U-notch of about 190 to 375 mm length is attached with the lamp shade. A funnel (4) of about 220 to 400 mm diameter with a total length of about 200 to 325 mm is attached at lower portion of the fins. Beetles collecting pot (5) with height to diameter ratio of 1 : 1 and fitted to the bottom of funnel(4) with the help of clamp (6) of about 40 to 75 mm and clamp base (7) of about 50 to 85 mm having rectangular notch of about 6 to 40 mm. In between the U-notch, CFL with sub-assembly containing CFL holder mounting is inserted from the centre of the trap roof. Whole CFL assembly is made theft proof with help of latch and lock. Safety rings (5 to 25 mm width) are also attached to U-notch, in order to provide safety. Two handles of 18 to 30 mm width and 130 to 200 mm length is attached for handling the trap. One hanger of 0.1 to 6.0 mm bar is fitted on the roof for installation of the trap in the field (Table 1). Details of various parts of the trap and its design are presented through drawings in figures 1-12. The newly designed trap is light weight, energy saving, theft proof, user friendly, low cost and efficient in trapping the beetles particularly of white grub beetles.[IN-DEL-2007-02404A]
