The invention aims to improve the disposable wearing article having a plurality of elastic members contractibly extending in a waist surrounding direction and hook part of the mechanical fastener attached thereto and can be reliably protected from undesirable gather formation due to contraction of those elastic members.A disposable wearing article (1) includes elastic members (20) interposed between inner and outer sheets (4, 5) and attached in a stretched state to these inner and outer sheets (4, 5). A base sheet (48) constituting a component of a hook part (17) of a mechanical fastener is oriented to extend across the elastic members (20) and attached to the outer sheet (5). Of the outer sheet (5), a region (52) in which the outer sheet (5) is attached to the base sheet (48) and peripheral regions (53, 54) having dimensions m, n as measured from side edges (50) of the base sheet (48) in a width direction (X) of the article (1) are attached neither to the elastic members (20) nor to the inner sheet (4). The outer sheet (5) is attached to the inner sheet (4) in regions defined outside those peripheral regions (53, 54).
