The invention relates to magnesium reinforcements and magnesium-reinforced barrier membranes for use in biomedical applications, such as dental, craniofacial and orthopedic applications. The magnesium reinforcements and barrier membranes are composed of a biodegradable, magnesium/polymer composite.
