#$%^&*AU2011226909B220130606.pdf#####VESSEL SEALING INSTRUMENT WITH ELECTRICAL CUTTING MECHANISM Abstract An end effector assembly (105) for use with an instrument for sealing and cutting vessels and/or tissue, the end effector assembly (105) comprising: a pair of opposing first and second jaw members (110, 120) at least one of which is movable relative to the other from a first position wherein the jaw members (110, 120) are disposed in spaced relation relative to one another to a second position wherein the jaw members (110, 120) cooperate to grasp tissue therebetween; each jaw member (110, 120) including a pair of spaced apart, electrically conductive tissue sealing surfaces (112, 122) extending along a length thereof, each pair of tissue sealing surfaces (112, 122) adapted to connect to respective first and second electrical potentials from a source of electrosurgical energy such that the tissue sealing surfaces (112, 122) are capable of conducting electrosurgical energy from one pair of tissue sealing surfaces (112, 122) to the other pair of tissue sealing surfaces (112, 122) and through tissue held therebetween to effect a tissue seal during a sealing process; an insulator (113, 123) or a partially conductive material disposed between each pair of electrically conductive sealing surfaces (112, 122); the first jaw member (110) including an electrically conductive cutting element (127) disposed within the insulator (113) or the partially conductive material of the first jaw member (110), the electrically conductive cutting element (127) adapted to connect to the electrosurgical energy source and disposed in general vertical registration to the insulator (123) or the partially conductive material on the second jaw member (120); the cutting element (127) being inactive during the sealing process and energized to the first potential during a cutting process and at least one electrically conductive tissue sealing s
