An airway device 10 for human or animal use includes an airway tube 12 having an end 14 surrounded by a laryngeal cuff 18 which is shaped to form an anatomical fit over and seal with a laryngeal inlet of a patient and which has an annular sealing bulge 90 at its tip 32 to wedge into and seal an oesophagus. The bulge 90 may be formed from an inner rigid core coated with soft polymeric or plastics material, be unsymmetrical in shape with a larger front face portion than dorsal portion to help guide vomit away from the airway, and have a contoured surface with dimples, pimples, ridges, indentations, valleys and/or protrusions to reduce its sealing surface contact area.
