PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for discriminating dogs based on the genetic background of barking behavior of dogs.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for discriminating dogs which comprises the steps of: analyzing the 955th base of serotonin receptor 1B (5-HTR1B) gene and/or the 199th base of monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) gene of a dog to be examined and discriminating the dog depending on whether the genotype fits to one of the predetermined groups of (1)-(5) or not (1) the 955th base of 5-HTRIB gene is T/T genotype (2) the 955th base of 5-HTRIB gene is T/T or T/C genotype (3) the 955th base of 5-HTRIB gene is C/C or T/C genotype (4) the 199th base of MAOB gene is C/C or T/C genotype and (5) the 199th base of MAOB gene is T/T or T/C genotype.
