A flexible variable differential transformer (FVDT) device includes a flexible shell having a channel. A primary winding, a first secondary winding and a second secondary winding are all disposed on the shell coaxial to the channel. The first and second secondary windings are positioned on opposite sides of the primary winding, and a flexible magnetic core is positioned within the channel and configured to move along a central axis of the channel.
