Disclosed are spirocyclic compounds of Formula I, salts thereof, and methods for their preparation. Specific examples of compounds of Formula I include: (5R,7S),(5S,7R)-1-(3-fluorophenyl)-7 -methyl-1,8-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-3-en-2-one, (5R,7S)-1-(3-fluorophenyI)-8-{ 4-hydroxy-3-isopropoxybenzyl} -7-methyl-1,8-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-3-en-2-one hydrochloride, and (5R,7S)-1-(3-fluorophenyl)-8-(4-hydroxy-3-isopropoxybenzyl)-7-methyl-3-phenyl-1,8-diazaspiro[4.5]dec-3-en-2-one. The compounds of Formula I inhibit the production of A-beta peptides that contribute to the formation of neurological deposits of amyloid protein and are useful for treating neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimers disease and Downs Syndrome.
