A system for the rehabilitation of a hearing defect, consists of a sensor (40) which takes up sound and converts it into an electrical signal, an electronic signal processing unit (34,62) for processing and amplifying, and an electrical energy source (52) which supplies individual components of the system. The latter incorporates a unit which has one or more electroacoustic, electromechanical or purely electrical members that stimulate damaged hearing. The signal processing unit (34) has a speech analysis or recognition module (18) and a speech synthesis module (19).
