The first leg extends downward from one end of the backspan, and the second leg extends downward from the other end of the backspan. The backspan includes, at the bottom face thereof, one or more pockets that are positioned to receive the first leg and the second leg of the staple after the first leg and the second leg of the staples have been deformed.
