PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in conventional methods for deodorizing odors generated from hospital and medical facilities, facilities for social welfare for the aged or the like including (1) ventilation, (2) spraying of a deodorizing material containing aroma, (3) wiping with water, (4) use of activated charcoal, (5) use of an air cleaner or the like, and (6) use of a curtain adsorbing odors, or that (1) the neighbors are often disturbed (2) the smell of the used aroma is strong (3) the deodorization has no immediate effect (4) the duration of deodorization is short (5) the noise of a motor or the like is generated in use, and (6) the whole odor in a room cannot be removed. SOLUTION: An adsorptive material consisting of diatomaceous earth is mixed with a photocatalyst to form a building material or coating material, and the building material or coating material is applied to the inner part of a building, whereby odors such as cigarette odor, animal odor, or excretal odor can be semi-permanently deodorized in a short time efficiently and economically.
