PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrosurgical instrument for correctly, safely, and efficiently forming a void in body tissue.SOLUTION: The electrosurgical instrument is equipped with a generally cup-shaped tissue container whose periphery is conductive and capable of applying RF electrosurgical current to body tissue. The electrode comprises an exposed bare wire at the periphery of the cup-shaped tissue container. A conduit is set in a handle section to perform suction from the tissue container. A tissue clearing member is rotatably mounted on or inside the tissue container and can be manipulated via a lever on the handle to help dislodge the spinal tissue in the tissue container. The tissue clearing member may be a radially-extending vane for rotation along the inner face of the plane of the cup-shaped tissue container.
