A removable manifold (46) for a medical /surgical waste collection system(30). The manifold is dimensioned tobe mounted to a receiver (44) integral with the system. The manifold includesa driver (170) for engaging a complementary valveinternal to the receiver. The valve (132, 136, 138, 139) regulates flowbetween the receiver and the down line components of thewaste collection system (30). The valve is normally closed. When the manifoldis fitted to the receiver the driver engages the valveso as move the valve to the open position. This allows fluid flow from themanifold and receiver to the downstream components ofthe system.
