A hygienic pacifier includes a multi-durometer faceplate defining a nipple access opening and a substantially spherical shield joining a nipple to the faceplate and being movable between a recoiled storage position in which the shield substantially surrounds the nipple and an extended use position in which at least a portion of the nipple projects through the nipple access opening and is exposed for use. The nipple access opening is pliable to facilitate withdrawal of a bulbous core of a mold used to form an interior of the shield during a molding process.
