Therefore, the β-mangosteen of the present invention is useful as a functional material for skin whitening and lightening.本発明は、β－マンゴスチンまたはその塩を有効成分として含有する肌美白用組成物に係り、本発明のβ－マンゴスチンは、チロシナーゼ及びＴＲＰ－１（ｔｙｒｏｓｉｎａｓｅ－ｒｅｌａｔｅｄ ｐｒｏｔｅｉｎ－１）の発現を阻害し、かつメラノソームのオートファジーを誘導するため、本発明のβ－マンゴスチンがメラニンの生成を抑制するだけではなく、α－ＭＳＨ（ｍｅｌａｎｏｃｙｔｅ－ｓｔｉｍｕｌａｔｉｎｇ ｈｏｒｍｏｎｅ）によって蓄積されたメラニンを除去する効果まで奏するということが分かった。よって、本発明のβ－マンゴスチンは、肌ホワイトニング及びライトニングのための機能性素材として有用に使われる。
